About Sig2Dat hashes
This tool can be used to create a 'hash' from a file which you can share with other people. A hash is an almost unique fingerprint of a file. With that hash other people can download the exact same file as where you created the hash from.
A QuickLink is a hash in the form of a hyperlink. It uses it own protocol (sig2dat://) to be able to send a hash to a program when you click on the hyperlink. Similar to the protocol (http://) that is used to open webpages in your webbrowser.
There are several different programs that can create and use these hashes. The first one was Sig2Dat, that is why we call these hashes Sig2Dat hashes. The latest version of Kazaa Lite contains a similar program called K-Sig. K-Sig has some extra options compared to the old Sig2Dat program.
Below you will find some simple guides for creating and using Sig2Dat hashes. Both for the Sig2Dat program and for the K-Sig program.
How to use Sig2Dat to download files (hash)
A Sig2Dat hash looks like this for example:
File: Friends - 101 - Pilot.avi
Length: 117977088 Bytes, 115212KB
UUHash: =S8hsFRuHtrQFq58jEhj+ofMudZI=
To download this file, do the following:
1) Start Sig2Dat
2) Select the whole hash (all three lines!) and copy it
3) In Sig2Dat click on 'Paste from Clipboard' in the top menu
4) If you did it correctly, then a .dat file should have been created by Sig2Dat
5) Restart Kazaa Lite to make the file show up in the Traffic window of Kazaa Lite
How to use Sig2Dat to download files (quicklink)
A Sig2Dat quicklink looks like this for example:
File: Friends - 101 - Pilot.avi
Length: 117977088 Bytes, 115212KB
UUHash: =S8hsFRuHtrQFq58jEhj+ofMudZI=
To download this file, do the following:
1) Click on the link
2) Sig2Dat will create a .dat file in your download folder of Kazaa Lite
3) Restart Kazaa Lite so that the file will show up in the Traffic window of Kazaa Lite
How to use Sig2Dat to create a hash/quicklink to place on a Forum
1) Start Sig2Dat.
2) Click on 'Signature Calculation'.
3a) Select 'normal style' if you want a normal hash.
or
3b) Select the topmost 'hybrid' if you want a html style quicklink. Note: not all forums support this format, but our forum does. Read the pinned topic on the forum for full details.
4a) Click on 'Select File(s) for Calculation'. Select the files and click on Open.
or
4b) Drag&Drop the files into the big white area of the window.
5) The data will show up in the big white area of the window. Select them all (use Ctrl key and click on them).
6) Click on 'Copy Selection to Clipboard'.
7) Go to the forum and create a new topic. Please use a subject that describes the contents of your post.
8) Paste (press [Ctrl] + [v]) the data into the message area of the topic you created.
9) You should see something like this:
File: Friends - 101 - Pilot.avi
Length: 117977088 Bytes, 115212KB
UUHash: =S8hsFRuHtrQFq58jEhj+ofMudZI=
10) You can add some additional information about the files or just submit your topic.
How to use K-Sig to download files (hash)
A Sig2Dat hash looks like this for example:
File: Friends - 101 - Pilot.avi
Length: 117977088 Bytes, 115212KB
UUHash: =S8hsFRuHtrQFq58jEhj+ofMudZI=
To download this file, do the following:
1) Select the whole hash (all three lines!) and copy it
2) Start K-Sig.
3) In the menu click on 'File' and select 'Paste From Clipboard'.
or
1) Start K-Sig.
2) In the menu click on 'File' and select 'Enter Hash Manually'.
3) Fill in the values supplied in the hash. Filesize must be the size in Bytes. UUHash must be everything behind UUHash:. In the example above it would be =S8hsFRuHtrQFq58jEhj+ofMudZI=
4) If you did it correctly, then a .dat file should have been created by K-Sig
5) Restart Kazaa Lite to make the file show up in the Traffic window of Kazaa Lite
Note: K-Sig also has an option to send the hash directly to Kazaa Lite. See File > Program Options > 'Open QuickLinks in Kazaa'. In that case all you have to do is the first three steps. The file will be added to the Traffic window directly and you don't have to restart Kazaa Lite.
How to use K-Sig to download files (quicklink)
A Sig2Dat quicklink looks like this for example:
File: Friends - 101 - Pilot.avi
Length: 117977088 Bytes, 115212KB
UUHash: =S8hsFRuHtrQFq58jEhj+ofMudZI=
To download this file, do the following:
1) Click on the link
2) K-Sig will create a .dat file in your download folder of Kazaa Lite
3) Restart Kazaa Lite so that the file will show up in the Traffic window of Kazaa Lite
Note: K-Sig also has an option to open Quicklinks directly in Kazaa Lite. See File > Program Options > 'Open QuickLinks in Kazaa'. In that case all you have to do is the first step. The file will be added to the Traffic window directly and you don't have to restart Kazaa Lite.

Why is the filesize displayed as 0 KB when I click on a QuickLink?
This is normal when you add downloads directly to the Kazaa Lite traffic window. The correct filesize will be displayed once the first source (a person who shares that file) is found by Kazaa Lite.
